Tips for Cooking with Peppers

Thanks to their bold and diverse flavors, peppers are a great vegetable to add to a variety of dishes. Not only do peppers taste good, but they also have incredible health benefits, including copious amounts of vitamin C and many disease-fighting properties. However, with so many different kinds of peppers out there, it can be difficult to know how to approach cooking with this culinary vegetable.

If you’re relatively new to cooking with peppers, here are a few tips to keep in mind to help make your cooking ventures a success:

  • When buying peppers, be sure to choose ones that have firm, shiny skins, staying clear of peppers with any mushy or soft spots.
  • As a general rule, the smaller the pepper, the hotter it is. Bell peppers are one of the sweetest, mildest peppers available, while the Carolina Reaper pepper holds the Guinness World Records title for world’s hottest pepper as of August 2013.
  • Choose the right pepper to complement your dish without overpowering it. This goes back to knowing the flavor of the pepper you choose. For example, poblano peppers have a mild taste that is often delicious in tomato sauce, while jalapeños, both fresh and smoked as chipotle peppers, add a kick that is commonly found in Mexican dishes.
  • Familiarize yourself with the many ways peppers can be cooked. You can roast, fry, grill, boil, or steam them, and all of these methods require various amounts of heat and time.

By following these tips, you will be able to create numerous delicious pepper-filled dishes at your One 51 Place apartment in Alachua, FL. If you are not currently a resident of our community but would like to know more about our spacious floorplans and luxurious amenities, call us today.
