Keurig coffee makers offer one of the quickest, easiest ways to make a single cup of coffee in the morning or any other time of day. What many people often don’t consider, however, is that just like any other frequently used appliance, Keurig coffee makers need to be cleaned every few months. Limescale and bacteria can build up in these coffee makers, so cleaning yours every three to six months can help to remove these deposits, improving the Keurig’s performance and also enhancing the taste of your coffee in the process.
If you’ve been neglecting to clean your Keurig, now is the time to start. The good news is that this is a fairly quick and simple process. You’ll need a few things before you can get started:
- Distilled vinegar
- Filtered water
- Large coffee mug
- Damp cloth
Start by wiping away any loose grounds and other particles from the exterior and pod holder. Next, fill your Keurig’s water reservoir with distilled vinegar to the max fill line. Turn on your Keurig and set it to run on the largest cup setting. When it is finished brewing, empty the mug and repeat the process until the reservoir is empty. Then, fill the reservoir with water and run your Keurig through several large cycles to rinse any vinegar from the machine.
