Everyone has been there – the alarm clock goes off in the morning and the only thing you’re able to find enough energy to do is to hit the snooze button and roll over the other way. Whether you’re trying to force yourself to wake up earlier or just be on time to an appointment, it’s tough to become an early riser if you aren’t one naturally.
Thankfully, all hope is not lost for those who are trying to get themselves out of bed at an earlier time. Here are some tips to help prepare your body and your mind for an early start so that when the time comes, you’ll have a better chance at springing out of bed, bright-eyed and bushy-tailed:
- Place your alarm clock across the room. This will force you to get out of bed to turn it off, so you won’t be as likely to stay in bed and hit snooze three times in a row.
- Find a friend to hold you accountable. You can send them a text each morning when you get out of bed, and have them call to wake you up by a certain time if they haven’t heard from you.
- Avoid hitting the snooze button. Studies have shown that this only makes it harder to wake up. Plus, you aren’t getting any restful sleep in the five minutes you are snoozing, just wasting time.
- Ensure you are following a healthy lifestyle. In addition to going to bed at a reasonable time, maintaining a healthy diet and other healthy habits can have a positive impact on your sleeping habits and energy levels.
