Starting a Book Club

Whether you’re a lover of classic literature or a leisurely reader, a book club can be a great way to get together and socialize with friends while keeping your mind active. While there are likely many existing book clubs looking for new members, starting your own can be especially rewarding because you and the club’s other members get to decide its direction.
Perhaps best of all, starting a book club is easy. Here are a few tips for those considering starting a book club but aren’t quite sure where to begin:

  1. Decide the club’s theme – You may decide to stick to a specific genre or time period, or you may decide to read a wide variety of books.
  2. Send out invites – Contact friends and family who may be interested in joining your book club. Anywhere from 5-15 people can be ideal for a book club. If you are struggling to find participants, consider contacting your local library to help get the word out.
  3. Decide on a time and place – Once you know who will be participating, collectively decide on a time and location to meet that is convenient for everyone. Some book clubs meet at a different reader’s home each time, while others prefer to meet at their local coffee shop.
  4. Come up with rules – You’ll need to decide how often you will meet and how long each meeting will run for. Many book clubs meet for about two hours every month. You’ll also need to collectively come up with a system for how books will be chosen.

Once you have followed these steps, you’re ready to have your first book club meeting. Our One 51 Place Alachua, FL, apartments make a great spot to host a book club meeting thanks to our apartments’ spacious layouts. Of course, be sure to remain respectful of your neighbors by keeping your noise level at a minimum while hosting! If you are not yet a resident of our community but would like to learn more about the benefits of living at One 51 Place, contact us today.
