Ways to Improve Your Vocabulary at Our Apartments in Alachua, FL

Nowadays, whether you’re sending an email or just chatting with a friend, there are more ways to communicate with others than ever before. With the many new avenues available to converse with others, it has become especially important to have a well-rounded vocabulary and to be able to express oneself clearly. Thankfully, you don’t need to study a thesaurus to find new words to use, as there are simpler and more fun ways to increase your vocabulary.

Here are just a few ways that you can take little steps to improving your vocabulary every day:

  • Read – Reading is a great way to not only stumble across new words, but to find creative new ways to use words you already know. While any reading is beneficial, try to read literary novels or serious, thought-provoking articles, which will contain more complex words and phrases. While you’re reading, if you discover a word you’ve never heard before and can’t figure it out from the context it is used in, look it up! You’ll have added a new word to your vocabulary while enjoying a good story or learning about a topic that interests you.

  • Listen to noted public speakers – Listening to public radio like NPR, or public speakers at TED talks or other conventions is not only interesting and enlightening, but can allow you to pick up on great speaking habits and a few new vocabulary words as well.

  • Take notes – Whenever you hear or see a new word, whether it’s in conversation, on the radio, or in a book, make note of it and look it up immediately. Writing down the definition can help cement the new word in your memory and give you something to refer to in the future.

  • Test it out – Try out what you’ve learned in writing or in conversation. The whole point of learning new words is to use them, so once you’re sure of the meaning, look for ways to casually insert your new vocabulary into your daily life.

As long as you make a careful effort to learn all there is to know about the new words you adopt into your vocabulary, you should be absolutely fine, whether you’re writing a letter, sending an important email, or having a conversation at a party. You can look up new words and learn absolutely anywhere, so you might as well do it somewhere comfortable, like in one of our spacious apartments in Alachua, FL. At One 51 Place, we have luxury apartment homes available in a variety of floor plans and multiple upscale amenities for our residents to enjoy.
