Dry skin is a condition that usually occurs in the winter months and is likely to show up on a person’s body in a variety of ways. For example, some people may experience flaking, scaling, or peeling of the skin; skin tightness after showering, bathing, or swimming; itching; and even deep cracks in the skin. Dry skin can be a painful condition to have, though, so it’s important to know of several remedies to find relief when it does occur.
Some easy at-home remedies to try include:
• Coconut oil – Simply apply to the skin right after taking a bath or shower.
• Honey – Rub onto the dry skin areas before taking a bath or shower. Let it soak into the skin for 5-10 minutes, and then rinse off.
• Plain oatmeal – Soak in a bathtub filled with warm water and one cup of plain oatmeal for at least 15 minutes. (For an extra luxurious experience, add a few drops of lavender oil.)
• Aloe vera – Cut open a fresh aloe vera leaf and squeeze the gel out of it. Apply this gel to the affected area, let it soak for 10 minutes, and then rinse it off.
The natural remedies listed above can bring great relief for anybody experiencing dry skin. For those still experiencing dry skin after trying these remedies for a few days, a dermatologist may be able to provide better relief options.
