Every minute, 100 hours of video are uploaded to YouTube.com. With more than 1 billion unique visitors each month, YouTube, a video-sharing website, is indeed growing quickly. YouTube was created in 2005 and acquired by Google one year later, and it is a place where users can upload, view, and share videos. In addition to user-generated video clips, it also has music videos, TV clips, educational videos, and other unique content.
Anyone can create their own YouTube page. All it takes is a Google account and a few clicks of the mouse to get started:
• If you already have a Google email account, you’ll simply click “sign in” at the top right corner of YouTube.com and sign in. If not, you’ll need to create a Google email account first.
• Once you are logged in, you will see your username at the top right corner. Click on it to access your YouTube menu. From here, you can go directly to your channel, your Video Manager (where you can edit, delete, and download your videos), subscriptions, and settings.
• If you want to record your first video, you will need a computer with a webcam. Simply click the “upload” button at the top of the page. You will be taken to a screen that has a big white square with a list of links to the right of it. The first link says “webcam capture” which is what you’ll need to click on to record your video. Click the record button and start talking! (If you have a smartphone or tablet that has video capabilities, you could also use that to record your video, by simply downloading the app to your device.)
YouTube is a growing community, so don’t forget to browse its library of videos and subscribe to different channels. Whether you’re looking for comedy, fitness inspiration, tutorials, or anything else your heart desires, YouTube is sure to have what you need.
