There are 1,000 pieces of jaggedly cut
cardboard scattered across the floor of
your apartment in Alachua, FL, and you
don’t know where to begin. You thought
solving a jigsaw puzzle was going to be
fun, but now you’ve found yourself
at a crossroads of confusion and indifference
toward the pieces spread across your floor.
Jigsaw puzzles can indeed be fun to solve,
but they certainly can be difficult and
time consuming. However, if you approach
it the right way and keep an open mind,
solving a jigsaw puzzle can be entertaining,
mentally stimulating, and very rewarding.
Trying to solve a jigsaw puzzle can be
difficult, but paying attention to these
tips can make the process much simpler:
- Look for pieces with flat edges, and
piece them together one-by-one to form
the border of the puzzle
- Group the remaining pieces into similar
colors, and try fitting them together.
For instance, if a puzzle contains a
picture of a grassy field and a blue
sky, you can organize the remaining
pieces into a sky group and a field
group based on their color.
- Don’t try to solve the puzzle
all at once. You might find that you
have several different miniature puzzles
forming at the same time, and this is
good.
- Once those smaller puzzles you’ve
formed start getting larger, you probably
have an idea of where they belong in
larger puzzle. Try to see if they fit
in anywhere along the border you formed.
- When you have solved several different
little puzzles within the larger puzzle
and place them in their appropriate
spots along the border, only a few pieces
should remain. These last few pieces
might be a bit of a guessing game, but
before you know it, you’ll have
the entire puzzle solved.
When you have completed your puzzle,
you may wish to frame it and display it
