The Retirement Home for Horses is located at Mill Creek Farm in northern Alachua. It is a 335-acre farm filled with trees, rolling green pastures, native woods and wetlands, and more than 100 retired horses. The owners of the Retirement Home for Horses created this beautiful sanctuary so that old, abused, or abandoned horses could have a peaceful place to live.
When considering a visit to the Retirement Home for Horses, here is some useful information to remember:
• It is open to the public every Saturday from 11am – 3pm
• Admission into the farm is two carrots
• They have many volunteers who assist with feeding, grooming, cleaning water troughs, picking up feed buckets, weed eating, mowing, and golf cart maintenance
In addition, those who would like to support this wonderful nonprofit can do so easily through its website (www.millcreekfarm.org), or by participating in its Sponsor a Horse Program, which helps to provide for feed, veterinary care, and other costs associated with the sponsored horse.
