Flying on an airplane may seem like second-nature to some people. For people who fly around the country (or world!) for business or pleasure, they understand the nuances of airports, layovers, and checkpoints. But for others, who may have never flown on an airplane or are a little rusty after not flying for a long period of time, preparing for an upcoming flight may feel overwhelming and stressful.
Here are some tips for preparing for a flight:
• Get to the airport early. Arriving one to two hours before your flight is generally recommended. First-time flyers should opt for two hours to provide plenty of time to check bags, get through checkpoints, and find the right terminal before the plane takes off.
• Plan for delays. Delays may happen, so make sure you have a book to read or something to do while you wait. Some delays may be short, while others can be long, upwards of four hours.
• Enjoy the view. Especially if you’re a first-time flyer, try your best to book a window seat so you can enjoy the breathtaking views.
• Fly during a nonpeak time, such as early in the morning. This way, the airport will be mostly empty, lines will be shorter, and it will be easier to navigate around the airport to find where you need to go.
Flying can be an enjoyable experience; it just takes careful planning and preparation to make sure you’re ready. Keep the tips above in mind as you plan your upcoming flight and before you know it, you will be a seasoned flyer.
