Living in Central Florida, high humidity and sweltering heat are just a part of life. While our luxury apartments at One 51 Place are unquestionably a great place to live, at some point our residents will be confronted by our state’s hot and humid weather. However, there are a few simple steps that you can take to avoid the worst effects of Florida’s weather.
What follows are a few simple techniques to cope with Florida’s heat and humidity:
-
Use your apartment’s air conditioner. Even if you’re planning on being out of your apartment for the majority of the day, don’t turn your A/C off – instead, set it at a higher temperature like 78 or 80 degrees. That way, your air conditioner won’t have to work as hard to cool off your apartment when you return home. In the long run, this can help prevent A/C breakdowns.
-
Make sure to change your air conditioner filter monthly (contact the office if you need assistance). Also, contact the office anytime your air conditioner appears to be malfunctioning.
-
Wear light, loose fitting clothing during the summer. Try to find items of clothing that are a pale color as well, as these shades reflect sunlight effectively.
-
Try not to shower during the hottest hours of the day. The moisture retained by your body after the shower will attract the ambient moisture, making you feel sticky once again.
-
Remember to stay hydrated, especially during the hot summer months.
-
If the weather is too unbearable, stay indoors. This will help protect your body from the worst of the sun’s effects.
-
If you plan on spending a long time outside, remember to wear protective sunscreen and perhaps bring a hat or visor, or even carry an umbrella to shade yourself from the sun.
By taking these measures to heart, you effectively manage the Sunshine State’s sometimes severe heat.
