If you work from home, need a craft table, or have another hobby that requires a dedicated space, you likely want a separate office. However, this may be challenging to find if you’re also living in—or searching for—a smaller apartment. Luckily, there are options to carve out an office space in your studio or one-bedroom apartment.
Set Up in Your Bedroom
If you have a one-bedroom apartment, the easiest way to create a functional office space is by combining it with your bedroom. You can match your bedroom furniture to a new desk (or a small table to create a nook, whichever size works with your square footage the best) and filing cabinets. This also cuts down on living room clutter and ensures that your work won’t be out in the open when you have family or friends over.
Table or Desk Behind Your Couch
If you want to reserve your bedroom for sleeping only, another excellent combination idea is to place a desk or tall table right up against the back of your couch. This works well with stools or chairs that can be stored underneath or to the side of the furniture when you’re not using it.
Utilize the Hallway
For smaller studio apartments without a separate room to incorporate the office into, you can opt for a minimalist desk in the hallway. Choose one that’s long and narrow and has a small footprint. Consider getting a stool to slide underneath when your desk is not in use. And, of course, make sure it’s at the end of the hall so that there’s still a walkway into your home!
